I recently had an experience with Dr. Farooq Amin at Excel Psychiatric Consultation PC in Germantown that I feel compelled to share. Before scheduling my appointment, I repeatedly asked over the phone if my insurance would be accepted. Each time, I was assured that it would be, which led me to make the appointment with confidence. I also provided my insurance information on their patient portal online

However, my visit was far from what I expected. Upon arrival, the office presented itself with an unsettling vibe—more akin to a government probation office than a serene, welcoming environment one might hope for in a mental health setting. This initial impression was only compounded by the discomfort I felt from the staff, who failed to create a supportive atmosphere.

Despite providing my insurance information once again at the office, I was eventually informed by Dr. Amin that my insurance was not accepted after all. This revelation came after I had already spent a considerable amount of time and effort to get there, which felt like a significant waste.

Given my experience, I cannot recommend this office for mental health treatment. If you do decide to consider this office, I strongly advise verifying your insurance details in person well before your appointment date to avoid unnecessary frustration and wasted time.

Dr. Amin is an amazing, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable doctor. Unlike most psychiatrists I’ve had, he uses every minute of my appointments to truly make sure our plan of care is working, whether or not he needs to make medication adjustments, and generally talks to me about my life and concerns. Every visit. I’m never in and out like a number instead of a person. I couldn’t be happier to be under his care for the last few years and can’t say enough good things about him and his whole office staff.

I have been seeing Dr. Amin for quite the time since I moved to US. He is not only a remarkable physician but a kind person too, always very considerate and take time to listen to your problems and then addresses in a very stepwise approach. I always had the issues or you call it an instinct to resist whenever new medication is recommended but his way to get me on board with all the treatment and answer all the questions in a very patient way took away all my stress to adapt to new meds. I would also like to admire the front staff who were able to follow at few occasions when I was out of the town. Despite the fact that his practice is growing, the front staff is always willing to accommodate in their best capacity. Very well done.

I have been seeing Dr. Amin for about a year, and I wanted to wait to write my review until I saw him a few times, and my overall experience has been great! I tried to find a new psychiatrist for months after the last one retired, but the wait lists were months ling, or they don’t return calls or emails or only accept cash (which I had done before but knew I couldn’t do anymore).

I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call back within minutes from Dr. Amin himself asking me if I felt that I was in danger. Thankfully I wasn’t at that point, but I had been before when I couldn’t find anyone to help me.
We met a few days later, and several times after. Every time he’s shown knowledge, compassion, flexibility and understanding.

He has a system that allows you to make your own appointments, which is fantastic for me because sometimes I need help immediately but my anxiety prevents me from making a phone call. So with this system I’m able to process my thoughts in without pressure or feeling like I’m wasting someone’s time when I can’t make a decision.

I hope he never retires!
